Yasuo stared blankly across the massive, empty foyer. Devoid of all its usual sounds of footsteps and excited chatter, of gasps of awe and smiles that seemed to radiate off the stone walls, the place was now less welcoming...
A small, white earpiece was placed delicately into Yasuo's ear as his fingers tapped at a metallic device held in his hands. The tiny iPod responded at the slightest of his touches, and soon, the song he was searching for began to play, wihspering into his ear.
Listen as the wind blows...
Yasuo closed his eyes as his face contorted into a look of pain. So many memories swam inside his head, untold secrets and dark pasts all mingled within his brain.
From across the great divide...
The moonlight that streamed in through a tiny crack between the set of large double-doors. It was eerie, standing at the top of the steps leading into the corridors alone, a ghostly melody playing in his ears. Yet Yasuo did not move from his spot. He wished to be able to face this.
Voices trapped in yearning...
Memories trapped in time.
The night is my companion
And solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here?
And not be satisfied
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd
Wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes
Yasuo's other hand, which was loosely gripping his flute, moved up to his lips and the boy held the instrument steady, parallel to his lips. With an intake of breath, he began to blow across the airhole, fingers dancing across the cold metal to press down on the notes. The mystical tune issuing forth was equal to the one playing inside his ear, the two melodies intertwining their notes and streaming seamlessly into the same song.
Through this world I stumbled
So many times betrayed
Trying to find an honest word to find
The truth enslaved
Oh~
You speak to me in riddles
You speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath
Your words keep me alive
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd
Wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
Instantly Yasuo's mind began to stray to Kayoko, with her bright face and shining presence. Yet the mere thought of her hurt him so deeply, it was as if he'd been slashed across the heart with a sharp blade. It had been so long...
Into this night I wander...
Its morning that I dread
Another day of knowing of
The path I fear to tread
Oh~
Into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
And nothing stands between us here
And I won't be denied
And I would be the one
To hold you down
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd
Wipe away your tears
Just close your eyes dear
The notes began to slowly die as the song issued forth its last words, the impact of the words seeming to reveberate within Yasuo's heart. The soft melody coming from the flute also began to wither, vanishing from the foyer as the last verse was sung softly.
Kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
And after I'd
Wipe away the tears
Just close...your eyes~
And indeed, Yasuo's eyes shut as a small tear ran down his cheek. The flute slowly fell from his lips, slipping from his grasp and clanging to the floor. Yasuo's soft footsteps echoed throughout the foyer as he made his way to the large doors.
"I'm not afraid," he managed to whisper, pushing the oak doors open and welcoming the chill wind nipping at his skin. "Not anymore."
As he left, only the small whispers as the wind blew across the hall, like tiny, incoherent voices, made noise within the foyer as the moonlight fell and gleamed off the top of the metal surface of Yasuo's flute. A small engraving was visible on the side of the flute, carved neatly into the metal. It read: "For eternity and a moment."
