'A boarding school. I can't believe that I'm actually going to a boarding school,' Kohana thought to herself. The girl slowly walked up to the school a bit leary of her new suroundings. It didn't help that she felt that she stood out a mile away. Her dad had insisted that she would fit in. She felt that her mothers amaerican features made her stand out. Once inside she set down her bags and took a look around. It was a beautiful saturday morning. It was a nice place as well. Now if she only knew what to do.

If his footsteps could be heard, they would've made echoes across the large and grand foyer. But his steps were silent, and thus hardly anyone noticed him as he ambled across. Just the way he liked it..
However, someone caught his eye and he turned his full attention to the new-comer. Yasuo tilted his head curiously and blinked. After some thinking, he decided to introduce himself... "Curse Kayoko for making me more social..," he sighed, smiling to himself.
"Er, hello," he began as he stepped up to the older but newer student. "You look...new. Can I help you?"

Kohana was surprised by the student who approached her. The girl immediately picked up her bag and brushed the hair out of her face. "Oh thank you. I just got here and frankly I haven't a clue on.... well anything." She smiled, blushing a bit to be caught off guard.
"I'm Kohana," she said to him then extended her free hand. "Pleasure to meet you." She studied him for a moment trying to guess how old he was.

Yasuo studied the gesture before he extended his own hand and shook hers. "Kohana, eh..nice name. Rolls off the tongue nicely," Yasuo nodded his head.
"Well, if you're in a Kumi I can show you the dorms or.." Yasuo shrugged. "Maybe I can just show you around.."

"That would be nice." Kohana began digging through her pockets for the slip of paper she had wrote her Kumi on. "I think I'm in cure-Kur something... ah here it is!" She pulled out a crumpled peice of paper and unfurled it. "Kurenai," she readjusted her bag and then looked around as if a sign would pop up pointing the way.
"So how long have you been going here... Um I don't think I caught your name."

"Oh, cool. I'm in Kurenai as well," Yasuo muttered. He turned around and faced the long hallways, readying himself for the trek to the dorms. "I'll take you there. Its not too far.."
"Oh, I've been here for a few months. Not too long, but long enough to have a name around some places." Yasuo shrugged, taking the first step. "Oh, right...uh, name's Yasuo." He scratched his neck, uncomfortable.

For the first time since she arrived Kohana relaxed, up till now she had been nervous and a little fidgety. It was good to hear that she had met someone she might be spending time with later. There even was noticeable change in her posture as she loosened up a bit.
She smiled at the news then brushed an annoying strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "Really? That 's neat." She turned with him and looked down the hall he was facing. She caught herself hoping he was right, her bag was getting heavy. Kohana rolled her blue eyes ,mentally scolding herself for being such a girl already.
She noticed something change slightly in his attitude after he told her his name. Not quite being able to tell what it was she decided to leave it alone. "Having your name around here, would that be a good thing?" She laughed lightly trying to show that she wasn't pressing him into the topic.
In a moment she was off on another topic, half into it and half looking around at the marvelous building. "This is definitely different from where I come from."

Yasuo could feel her barrier of tension suddenly give way and collaspe, an air of friendliness now surrounding Kohana. He couldn't help but let a very small, very quick smile crack onto his face. But it was soon gone again as he started taking steps through the hallway, the silence of his footfall making him invicible by ear. Only by sight would you know that Yasuo was around.
He ignored her first question, frowning. But at her next sentence, he sighed and replied. "Yeah, its that way when you first get here. Quite large and easy to get lost in, I should know. Took me a few days to find my dorm."
Then Yasuo blinked, pondering something. "Hm..where do you come from?"

Kohana had caught the frown out of the corner of her eye. Once again her guard came up. For a moment she walked in silence looking at the floor. His sigh wasn't much comfort to her either. 'Great,' she thought to herself, 'first person I meet an already I'm becoming a nuisance.'
"Days, A shame you didn't have someone a friendly as I have to show you the way." Her smile was now half hearted and her tone had dropped the enthusiasm. She glanced at him, readjusted her bag uncomfortably, then looked around at the walls .
It was then she noticed that she didn't hear him walking. That was strange to her. The his silent grace seemed to make her seem clumsy and loud. It made her feel alien here and she wished she could bolt back out the door and make her way home.
"Oh," she said his words finally registering. Again her cheeks tinted red from embarrassment when she realize that she had not answered him for about a minuet. "I'm from America, New Mexico. Well kinda anyway. My mom is and my dad grew up around here."
Again her attention flitted off to the building around her.

"New Mexico," Yasuo echoed, nodding. "I've heard of that place. Not too much about it though, just a few weather reports here and there." More silence was all that entered through both his ears, and the soft patting as Kohana walked beside Yasuo.
Yasuo started counting the soft pats made by Kohana as she walked. One, two, three, four, five... Suddenly, Yasuo perked his ears and listened much more intently. Her breathing and his own breath, pumping out carbon dioxide and taking in oxygen. The beating of his heart, as if someone were playing a drum inside his chest.
"How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?" Yasuo finally asked, tired of hearing the same thump, thump, thump...over and over again.
